Trek Bicycle Corporation, the company behind both Trek mountain bikes and road bikes have been known for years for their advocacy work almost as much as their quality bikes. Now, this month it is supporting some of the biggest cycling advocacy groups in the UK by lending its support to Go by Bike month for the second year running. Go by Bike Month will run at participating dealers of Trek mountain bikes and road bikes through the entire month of June and if you were thinking of getting a Trek mountain bike or road bike, now is the time to do so. When purchasing Trek mountain bikes or road bikes from participating dealers, cyclists will be offered free membership for twelve months in one of Trek’s partner advocacy organisations: the LCC or the CTC. There’s also a free cycling information pack from sustainability group Sustrans. Not only this but dealers will be giving away free helmets with the purchase of Trek mountain bikes or road bikes during the month long campaign.

The Go by Bike campaign was launched for the first time by Trek in June of last year. Its aim was to encourage people to take up cycling for commuting and leisure purposes. Now, in 2010, the campaign aims to do the same but whilst giving a little more support to those people who already cycle. This is why as well as special offers on Trek mountain bikes and road bikes; there is membership to cycling groups and information on offer this year. In giving away membership to advocacy groups, Trek hopes to support cyclists and help new cyclists to get the most out of their two wheels. Boosting the numbers of people regularly using bikes to get around has many benefits to health, finance and the environment and increased support for cyclists is always welcome. This all means of course that if you were thinking about getting Trek mountain bikes or road bikes, this is the month to do it!

Trek Mountain Bikes And Remaining Safe

July 18th, 2010 No comments

There are all kinds of bikes being produced for carbon-free entertainment, such as those for the exciting and often dangerous pursuit of mountain biking. There are over twenty ranges of Trek mountain bikes for example, some of which are so technologically advanced that they even come with full-suspension.

Families use mountain bikes, as well as individuals competing in tournaments or on mountain bike trails. Lots of businesses make mountain bikes and as the name suggests, riders take the bikes into difficult terrain on purpose for fun. Bikes like Trek mountain bikes are designed to be strong, comfortable and agile, however, the safety of the bike is a primary concern. If bikes are built with safety in mind by being strong and easier to control, then riders will find difficult ground easier to deal with too – better agility from the bike therefore helps the rider stay safe.

Safety should always be encouraged because mountain biking can be a very dangerous activity. Wearing the correct helmets and other protective clothing will help keep a mountain biker safe, as well as learning to ride the bike with control.

Knowing your abilities and limits is as important as understanding the trail and terrain on which you’re biking. In mountain biking practice makes perfect – riders should make sure they have rehearsed moves before trying to attempt difficult and new trails.

It’s obvious but important to choose the correct bike in the first place. Dealers selling reputable models such as Trek mountain bikes will be able to give good advice and should be consulted when making a purchase.

It’s high likely that you could end up spending a lot of your hard-earned money on the wrong equipment if you fail to get good advice.

OCLV and Trek Mountain Bikes

May 29th, 2010 No comments

All mountain bikers know the importance of durability for a good mountain bike. Of course, it makes no sense paying hundreds or thousands of pounds for a bike that can’t handle tough trails.A mountain bike which shows the strain quickly isn’t going to last, so it’s not a good choice for a serious rider. For durability, riders should check out Trek mountain bikes.

Full suspension bikes, hardtails, road bikes and women’s bikes are all offered as part of trek mountain bikes’ range. Almost all of their frames are available as carbon fibre or aluminium models. The majority of experienced bikers prefer carbon fibre frames because they are lightweight.Unfortunately, with lightweight often comes the disadvantage of a bike being less durable: not so with Trek mountain bikes.

The reason Trek mountain bikes are so durable is because of the technique used in the production of their carbon fibre bikes. Optimum Compaction Low Void, or OCLV, is a process of production which was invented by Trek mountain bikes. Trek mountain bikes can boast of being the only manufacturer to use this method.

The technique means heat and pressure are applied to multidirectional layers of carbon fibre to densely compress them. This sounds incredibly complex but in reality it is just a variation on the ordinary heat treating process of the carbon fibre and resin. This technique achieves what Trek mountain bikes call ‘an optimum ratio of fibre to resin’ which maximises strength whilst minimising weight. That is to say that the technique gives the best durability to weight ratio there is.

The low void part of the name refers to the elimination of voids. Voids being the small or even microscopic gaps which can be found between layers of carbon fibre.Since it is these small gaps which are typically the source of fatigue failures, there is obviously benefit to eliminating them.
