Testing the Waters at the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, NY

While museums may be endlessly fascinating for adults, sometimes they’re a bit of a bore for children. At the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, New York, however, history truly comes alive and taking a ride in some pieces in the collection is not out of the question. In fact, it’s encouraged.

This museum hosts all manner of pleasure boats that were used on the St. Lawrence River. From houseboats that belonged to the fabulously wealthy classes of the 1800’s to speedboats that belonged to 20th Century daredevils, it’s all here. For a more relaxing ride, ask about the skiffs or rowboats which provide a quiet, intimate cruise down the rivers.

The museum also hosts fantastic events such as boat building courses. You may never actually build your own boat, but having some basic knowledge will make you appreciate just how much goes into the creation of these water vehicles.

Take an advance look at the collection and, perhaps, find something in which you’d like to cruise the river yourself!
